iPhone Bluetooth Limitations ★
I’m quite surprised that Apple hasn’t yet listened to consumers’ requests asking for Bluetooth File Transfer services available in every other Bluetooth-enabled phone. If I did indeed have an iPhone, like I hope I will this summer, and wanted to send someone a photo I just took. I’d just have to tell that someone, “Hey, what’s the hurry? It’ll reach your inbox as soon as I reach home.”
If I want to email photos, I’d have to send N number of mails for N number of photos because you can only attach one photo with one email. But forget email, I should simply be able to send someone 10 metres away a file via Bluetooth. I can neither send files nor receive files.
Apple’s own iSync app does not support syncing with the iPhone, that’s the most shocking.
I don’t understand how Apple is helping us by limiting Bluetooth usage to the wireless headset. That’s criminal. It isn’t going to get rave reviews in India if Apple doesn’t fix that Bluetooth to work like other devices. It can’t be crippled like it currently is.
That’s not only ‘it’. Apart from not being able to transfer stuff, it also connects to only the official Apple Bluetooth headset. Also, you can’t replace the battery yourself - like most Apple products. The difference here is that it’s a friggin cellphone, and it’s quite possible your battery might just die on trip. So what are you supposed to do, send it to them? :p
Apart from that, before the latest firmware update, it couldn’t forward SMSes either. Nor send the same SMS to multiple people. I mean wow, I can now send SMSes to multiple people. :p
Android, running Linux, with no restrictions, is gonna kick Apple’s silly little butt.
WWDC ‘08 this June. Will wait till then. Android seems interesting. It’s interface is nothing unique though. Will see both options before buying.
