Gmail Chat on Safari

I don’t really know when this happened. But I just noticed.

Update: As Prateek pointed out in the comments, the chat application seems to be functioning ever since Safari 3 was released. It’s just that I never noticed. I’ve also noticed that the storage counter in Gmail has crossed 5400MB. At this rate, I don’t think I’ll ever need to switch to Yahoo.

  • Safari 3’s always had support for gmail chat and rich text editing etc. because of the newer version of WebKit that its running.

  • Hmmm…I dont think Google Chat has worked for me from the beginning. But since I was using Thunderbird, I may have been ignorant.

Anyway, I’m happy it’s working. I also see a small link that says “Older Version” in the top right corner, which indicates that something has changed.

  • Gmail has been upgraded behind the scenes. It now loads faster, smoother and is also more user friendly with the small dialogs in yellow boxes that pop up at the top with every action you do.

All in all, gmail is simply getting awesome as the years progress :) No reason not to use it !!
