IDrive-E Review

IDrive-E is an interesting online backup service I tested today. The service is much better than what MSN offers and the main reason is that they let you use IDrive-E through a small app that you can download after signing up. 2GB of storage may not be quite a lot of storage, but it’s enough if you want to use it as an alternative to your pen drive. Optionally, you can upgrade to the premium service($49) which offers unlimited storage and is quite reasonable when you compare it to a host of other similar services.

First step is signing up and downloading their backup utility.

Next step is to install the little app you just downloaded.

After installation, it prompts you for your username and password.

After it logs you onto the IDrive server, you just need to select the files you want to backup, and click on the “Backup Now” button. I did not read a single manual, and just knew what to do. Not complicated, at all.

The backup procedure starts, and in moments you’ll be able to access your files via any computer connected to the internet. It’s something like the non-official Gmail Drive, but this is much much better. You can choose to integrate the application with Windows Explorer and also use the scheduler to backup your data at a particular time of the day, or even in real-time as you make changes to files on your hard disk. I haven’t used any secure backup service that’s so responsive, and easy to use. Unfortunately, there isn’t any Mac support as yet, and we can just hope it arrives soon. When it does, there will be no reason NOT to use this service.

I highly recommend using IDrive and it’s services.
