I’d rather have my eardrum pricked

Original Music. It’s all over. Everywhere you go, you get to listen to music that you’ve already heard but sung by someone new. Billy Joel sang Uptown Girl, but nobody knows that. They think Westlife sang the song.

Thankfully Westlife didn’t choose to create their own copy of Honesty(another great song by Joel). You can listen to it below:

Think of the dumb Green Day song “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”. The tune, the beat and just about everything but the lyrics seem to have been ripped off from the Oasis hit “Wonderwall”. It’s a real insult to a band like Green Day, which has even been nominated for Grammy Awards that they didn’t deserve to get anyway.

I’d rather not say this, but I really think these people who are featured on Channel V and MTV are fucking morons. Firstly they sing old songs without the slightest imaginative change. Then they have to make semi-nude females dance, insulting not only the original singer but anyone associated with songs. If they had to make music videos look like sex scenes, they should broadcast those videos online and make users pay for them. They wont be disappointed by the sales numbers, and they’ll surely get a special mention in Times of India if publicity is what they wanted.

If using music channels to broadcast these videos wasn’t enough for the producers, they even force it on to your face on news channels and movie channels in the form of video advertisements. They pay channels like NDTV to appear on shows like Night Out. Someone I know quoted the President of the Radio Mirchi group(that “someone” knows him personally) as saying in a private meeting that 98.3’s chief target is India’s truck drivers. I laughed and said, “Yeah. That’s what we’re all becoming, truck drivers!”.

  • I beg to differ, Abhishek. Boulevard of Broken Dreams as well as Wonderwall are really good, but I don’t find any similarity between the same.

As regards the copies, I don’t have any problem as long as the ‘covers’ sound good. You can blame them for not being as creative, but not of not creating quality music.

Am sorry there mate. Disagree bigtime with your comments about Green Day.

  • I didn’t write about Green Day just to write about something.
    Listen to this:

  • I’d have to side with Aditya on this one. I’ve heard the Wonderwall Boulevard of Broken Dreams song and I still think both are excellent songs. Besides Green Day has some other good songs too (’Give me Novocaine’ and ‘Holiday’ come to mind).

  • If you download the FLAC version, disable the layer with the lyrics and play the songs you’ll agree with what I said.

Just found this on the net, don’t know how accurate this is but here’s what Noel Gallagher said:

If you listen, you’ll find it is exactly the same arrangement as Wonderwall. They should have the decency to wait until I am dead (before stealing my songs). I, at least, pay the people I steal from that courtesy.

  • [...] You’ve probably watched it on MTV(which I don’t watch because it’s made for truck drivers) and you may be one of those lunatics going around teaching people to say “A scrap a day, [...]
