Google Rocks!

They(it’s isn’t one person which makes Google what it is, it’s the world) taught Yahoo and Microsoft that 4MB and 2MB respectively are as big storage capacities for emails as 640 KB RAM would be for Bill Gates right now.

They don’t go and tell the world that we offer you unlimited storage which you’d most probably never use effectively and what they offer is what you get.

They identify the number 42 rather intelligently.

It doesn’t cost Google for James Bond using their services, clearly visible in one of the scenes of Casino Royale.

If the internet goes bust worldwide, Google has enough data centres to bring it back up.

Flipping applications to give a 3-dimensional view or having all of them tiled on the screen doesn’t make people happier. Speed and Google does(for most, that is).

You aren’t charged $30 for disabling ONLINE DATING or DO YOU YAHOO? text adverts sent with  your Gmail messagesm, because there really aren’t any adverts.

More later…

  • It DOESN’T cost $30 to disable taglines in Yahoo! anyway - it’s $20.

You will not need to act like an asshole Google fan, because when Gmail increases storage, it’s earth shattering, when Yahoo does AWAY with limits, it’s dirty tactics. Logical,,,

Effectively use storage? What’s wrong with giving more? Any problems?

Didn’t some with a name starting with ‘A’ say he found Yahoo! Search faster than Google? I wonder who it was…

It doesn’t cost Yahoo! either to have their search engine featured in Jerry Bruckheimer movies.

Yahoo isn’t as idiotic as Google to take one year to add a delete button in Gmail, or not to allow rich text signatures.

Neither does Yahoo! delete all emails of people using Firefox 2.0, just because they’d kept logged in to their account.

Nor does, or ever can, match the wide range of services Yahoo! has.

  • BTW, if you’re wondering ‘which movie’, it’s National Treasure. And FYI, it took in more cash in US box office than bloody Casino Royale, so don’t try any stupid ‘Casino Royale was bigger’ argument. And even you’ll admit Jerry Bruckheimer is MUCH bigger.

  • LMAO

  • Lovely debate going on here.. got me ROFL!
And yes, adverts are some of the most irritating things about Yahoo!
And who the hell other than a few hardcore Yahoo! freaks uses Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Weather, etc.. etc.. sort of bullcrap..??
The primary use is search, mail and networking stuff..
Google definetely does better in search, lacks frills and knows to send in messages fast, therefore in mail as well, plus coming to social networking, Orkut rocks! (not for me, but most of you!)
Plus, GooglePages is actually better than Geocities. You have to agree to me on this.. only in terms of free services (not paid hosting) Even when it comes to paid hosting, Yahoo Plans suck..!!
And what the hell are you going to do with unlimited storage on mail. You arent able to fill up ur HD, can you actually make ur mail service limiting for you, if you can, hats off! i confess that I cant.
And once again, services such as Radio, Horoscopes, Real Estate, Shopping, Finance, etc are absolutely worthless for me! So the arguement of wider range of services doesnt really fit in here..
And once again, I would prefer simplicity over frills! and so would many others.
Coming to IMing, Gtalk’s voice clarity is unparelleled.. end of story.. There are jus to many useless things eating on my system memory while using Y!MSGR.. and also, Google uses and Open protocol, Jabber.. this should favour you Onkur, the Open Sourcerer,, or the OSS freak!
Keep it going.. its lovely..!! ;)

  • Oh come on, Skype is much better for voice. And if I may point out, the voice chat facility is NOT Google’s own, they’ve borrowed (bought it by now?) from some other company.

I mean, come on accept it that for once, Yahoo! has beaten Google in the shock factor. You Google fans rabidly chant Gmail’s name when it increases storage, and the moment Yahoo! does it, you start ho-humming that ’storage never fills up etc etc.’ Don’t be jealous. Like me for example, I’ve so much mail stored online, so why the fuck would I cry if they give me more?

  • Nicholas Cage made National Treasure do well, not Yahoo!

Google thought most people would follow it’s advice, and not delete any emails. They had an option for you to mark spam as spam which is deleted automatically in 30 days.

It will cost Google less than Yahoo to give us unlimited storage, and I’m sure they’re going to react a little smarter than Yahoo thinks.

  • And let me tell you Gmail is growing at a rate 68% per year as compared to a small 10% of Yahoo.

Yahoo hosting doesn’t suck. They charge a premium like GoDaddy and you’ll always find their services more reliable than ones you find on ebay. But even though it doesn’t suck in terms of quality, the only person I have heard of considering buying space from Yahoo is Ankur. I mean yeah you’re an ardent supporter, but there has to be a limit.

  • Google satellite services are actually doing pretty well. Google Earth is awesome. I don’t see any Yahoo Earth coming close to our lives any time soon.

    - Abhishek #
  • Yahoo was better at showing me results for topics that no one usually searches for on the net. I may not have mentioned earlier but Yahoo fails to eliminate dead links as efficiently as Google which is why I’ve had to search through pages and pages of Yahoo to finally get what I wanted. Indeed I didn’t get it on Google, but a normal person wouldn’t have had the patience to search like me.

    - Abhishek #
  • why would u use the spam button to delete emails, that also makes the sender a potential spammer in Google’s database. Google earth is also not google’s own thing, bought.

  • Hey, I meant the spam button is to mark spam as spam. As for the other emails, there is an archive button which I still don’t see on Yahoo.

    - Abhishek #
  • Why do you need an archive button on Yahoo? Gmail needs it because they use tagging, so Archive is needed to stash it away. Yahoo on the other hand, follows a much more better system of folders. So you don’t NEED to archive, simply drag and drop from inbox to folder you want.

Of course, Google simply bought Keyhole. And since Google has deeper pockets, they can have a free version too. Keyhole being a small company could never have paid the bandwidth bills from a free version.

BTW, what do you mean to say ‘Nicholas Cage made National Treasure big, not Yahoo’. Look at how illogical it is to what you’re comparing. Are you trying to say Google Search made Casino Royale big and not Daniel Craig? What was the POINT you were trying to make!?

Of course Yahoo will grow at 10%, only because it’s been around longer. People who need IDs might have taken them long ago. And the current rate for Gmail would be inflated, since they only recently opened signups without invitation. I’d remind you ONCE more - Yahoo! Mail has 250 million users, Gmail has only 9 million. I know, now you’ll say Yahoo has been around longer, but consider this. In 4 years, Gmail gets 9. So in 10, with average signup rate for this period it’d have been STILL much less than what Yahoo has. All this when Gmail had the advantage of boom in internet connectivity - in the older days when Yahoo was around less people had net connections. Still, Yahoo rules.

So WHAT if I consider Yahoo! Hosting, I’m not the only one, and one thing’s for sure, as you said, it’s so much more reliable. There are so many OTHER people who use Yahoo! Hosting too. That’s because for web hosts, Yahoo is ranked third.

  • BTW, did I tell you that I don’t even use Google Toolbar? IF I ever need to search Google (which happens VERY rarely), I search it via the Yahoo! Search interface using Yahoo! Open Shortcuts. ;)

  • Dude I said it is more reliable than the services that can be bought on ebay. If I were to talk about reliability GoDaddy remains at number one.

  • Google just made Gmail an invite-free option quite recently.. for this long, the invitation based system was actually making Gmail’s own progress slower..
You might call this unwise businessmanship, but Google does it for its own satisfaction, if the services suit u, go for it otherwise, use something else. Google wants everything to go its way, unlike Yahoo! which does all it can to attract customers.. have you ever seen Gmail’s ads ever on the internet or shopping malls or on television, I have seen Yahoo!’s..
And as I said, Google does stuff in its own way, it made Orkut open to people maintaining everykind of an account, whether its Yahoo!, Rediff or whatever… So, Google could have made Orkut restrictive and allowed only Google accounts in, but NO, Google wanted to create a robust social networking system, and it did it.. not thinking of the potential earning it could have made..
Hence what you see here is.. Google is the biggest obstruction to its own developement, so ur arguement of statistics becomes out of place here.. Google doesnt give a shit to it..!!
Coming back to search, Google were the pioneers, and no other company has as much authority or dictatorship in cyberspace as much Google has, Your Google page rank, or Google’s rating of your site is desisive to earn you money in many services such as PPP, and everyone tries to impress King Google by getting their sites linked on more and more pages.. This is just one example, there are many more to come…
Coming to hosting, Yahoo! plans may be reliable but they are quite expensive when compared to GoDaddy, eHost, DreamHost or any other service..
And when coming to the mail system, once again, its Google’s policy, if u like it, use it otherwise, chuck it.. This is how Google Mail is and this is how we like it to be… It isnt like Yahoo! which picks up the most popular features from everywhere and works totally for customers, Google has its own stand in the internet market.. it does what makes IT feel satisfied, and it is for this very attitude of Google, we have so much respect! ;)

  • @Prashanth: And THAT is exactly what I hate - Google thinks that all users are morons who need to be directed to doing something the way Google wants it. I think we had this discussion over IM earlier, and I’m in no mood to type all my facts out again.

As for Google only allowing Google accounts, well they ARE allowing Google accounts only. It’s something like Microsoft’s failed .Net passport thingy. On Yahoo!, you never need to leave their network for anything anyway, their umbrella of services is so huge.
