MINET 2006

It’s only the second time today that I have been to The Mothers International School. The last time I went there, I was seeking for an admission into the school when I was five. As far as I can recollect the school looks pretty much the same way as it used to look to me at that age(except that PCs now have more RAM). And it looked bad to be honest.

Well, I am not saying this because we didn’t win anything. I am only saying this looking at how I would feel if I were in place of those poor students organising the whole thing. From the looks of the faces of their teachers, I could see that they were least interested. And when the teachers show no interest, how can students’ work be recognised. Now that MSM has had it’s symposium, I can rate every other symposium in comparison to ours(MATRIX 2006). Talking about MINET 2006, PALE is the word.

The web designing event was pretty good, even though we lost. I could see that I have a unique version of Windows XP at home which supports XMLhttprequest(ajax) as it surely didnt work over there. So the result was that we couldn’t make the site we had planned to make as quickly as we otherwise would have. If I had known about this ajax issue, I would have spent that amount of time we had lost doing something more productive at home, sleeping! Lesson learnt, make simple websites with lots of images no matter what judges may say. Because they still give the prize to the guy who’s site would take 5 minutes to open up on dial-up.

As we worked for two hours on those 2ghz PCs with such an unfair amount of RAM, we were recieving a dozen smses about the events we won at this year’s Economm at DPS RK Puram today. Someone also tells me, DPS has become even more of a factory this year after he went there for Fireball yesterday. Anyway, I am only looking forward to going for 3 more symposiums this year where I hope the judges will have more knowledge than us so that we may finally get some non-controversial results!

  • It didn’t “suck”, but it didn’t come up to my expectations. The kind of money they charge as fees is much more than what our school takes from it’s students. And even with that it was a poor show.

  • dont kno man, i just luved their surprize event, guess u tend to like everything when you win……..

  • Gr8 that you won. I know the events were good but not the management. What I was talking about is totally different.

  • posted this on computer symp. earlier…donno if u read it..ill quote it anyway:

    “hi abhishek,

i dont wanna loose my cool here but i guess i will. first off all, we didn’t have a 50 member army like you did…the event was fully organised by a core group of 4-5 people…

secondly, the quality of questions for all the events was at par if not better than other major events ( exun, codewars, code etc.) ( does not include matrix). Then, the judging part. i can assure you that all the judges we had for the event are there in the IT field since quite a few years, most of them being iit pass outs with 9 point something GPAs, so id request you to keep ur trap shut about that.

i do not understand what u mean by saying the management in b/w the events was poor. for god’s sake…nothing was delayed at all…all the events were on time…how the hell on earth does it matter how we managed it? nobody seemed to have any problems with it…i dont understand y ur worrying ur ass about the “management” in between the events. even if we did screw up, u dont have any idea about it, u never will. its not about blaming the students or the faculty here, its about making harsh statements that make no sense whatsoever. i have been participating in symposiums since class 6 and have been organising minet since 3 years, and as far as i know, this was the best we could have had with the resources provided. i cannot say anything about the refreshments, just that if they were not satisfactory, its not much of our fault, its just not my department. if u think the questions for any event were below standard, then give me a mail…ill give u a good idea about what IT events are all about. i dont wanna sound rude…but i have like tonnes more experience in computer comps than you will ever have and i can tell you that your views regarding the event are completely senseless, biased and reflect an opinion showing the frustration of not succeeding. kindly do not take this as an offence, if u do, go cry to mommy, i dont really give a damn. “

and btw…which event are u talking abt in which u knew more than the judges?

  • hmm..interesting: Well I wouldnt get offended by you or by anything anyone would try to say about me. I dont need to defend myself either since I pretty much know what I’m talking about. If you dont agree with me or if you think what I say doesn’t make sense, there is of course this option of deleting comments on drupal which you can do pretty easily I guess, since you’re the current admin.

Just because they are 9 pointers doesn’t mean they’re good judges, I dont get your relation here.

We of course, didn’t have a 50 army club as you said it was limited to 15 and the number of participants we had to handle was probably much more than you could have handled by any means.

Management in between the events! If I wasn’t sticking around your 1st Floor lab, I would have been late for your WebD event because people at your aspiration hall obviously had no clue to what’s happening.

And no yours wasnt better than exun or “any major event”.
And my post on comp symp was slightly incorrect if it sounds any better.

“Refreshments were NOT made by students. At least, what we had.” should have come after the two lines which followed.

I obviously didn’t mean to offend you and since you are most probably reading this, I should tell you that you aren’t the only person who has participated in many symposiums.

One of your guys didnt seem to understand what “RSS” meant and was more interested in questioning us about why we used photoshop to design our banner.

I already said that you guys did a good job with the events but wouldnt you think it was too informal? The one guy whom I could see was really working was the guy in-charge of the crossword. He came to our school as a programmer, I believe. He astonished us with that crossword. It was one of a kind, one we had never seen before which and that’s the reason the crossword was the best event, after your surprise event.

    No harsh feelings!
